“Thousands of tax rebates from the Economic Stimulus Rebate program are being mailed out this week. However, residents should be warned of fraudulent e-mails and phone calls.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, these are being made by people who claim to work for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and Social Security Administration. The IRS does not gather information for tax refunds, rebates or stimulus payments via telephone, nor do they send unsolicited e-mails to taxpayers about tax account matters.”
