A Letter from a Knicks Ticket Holder
Posted: December 12th, 2007 | Author: Catherine | Filed under: Uncategorized |An unhappy New York Knicks fan wrote and I asked him if I could use his letter. With Mark Cameron’s kind permission, here is his letter (and I will provide some links afterwards):
Catherine, I enjoy your basketball articles. My family has season tickets for the New York Knicks. We have had them for years. My Dad used to go with his father to games and Dad still goes once in a while. The tickets are available to me but I rarely go. It’s a waste of time. It’s a farce and not enjoyable at all.
I don’t mind if we lose. I mind when there is a lack of effort. I see that you think that Isiah is going to be fired. I doubt it. And here’s why. Isiah has survived the harassment lawsuit, poor trades, punch-in-the gut contracts, disputes with his own players, disrespecting the fan base and I could go on and on. The thing is that the Knicks are a business. They’re making money. In fact, they’re at the top of Forbes list for NBA teams. As much as they stink on and off the court, they still make money. It’s location. There are enough people to buy the tickets and fill the seats.
You’re making a mistake if you think it’s about winning or putting together a good team. It’s about filling the seats and making big bucks. If families and businesses don’t renew the season tickets, someone else will buy them. Remember, Catherine, bad press is like free publicity. People will go to see how bad these guys are. It’s like going to a horror show or looking at a train wreck. When you think that the situation can’t be any worse, these Knicks find a new low. I’m willing to bet that Isiah survives the season and comes back next year. The money keeps rolling in.
