Lakers vs Celtics: The Matchups

Posted: June 1st, 2008 | Author: Catherine | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

The glaring mismatch in terms of positions is the pairing of Vladimir Radmanovic and Kevin Garnett. The advantage is definitely in the Celtics favor, if indeed this is the pairing. By position, this is how the possible starters match up:

  • Point Guard: Fisher and Rondo
  • Shooting Guard: Bryant and Allen
  • Small Forward: Odom and Pierce
  • Power Forward: Radmanovic and Garnett
  • Center: Gasol and Perkins

Vladimir Radmanovic will need help guarding Kevin Garnett. The Celtics will be counting on Kevin Garnett for offensive production and Vladimir Radmanovic’s defense has been suspect at times. On the other hand, if Kevin Garnett is guarding Vladimir Radmanovic, then that will mean play away from the basket. Vladimir Radmanovic will be looking for his shots near or beyond the three point line. This will pull Kevin Garnett away from the basket and may decrease his rebounding presence.

A possibility is to switch Pau Gasol on Kevin Garnett and Vladimir Radmanovic on Kendrick Perkins. This would make a huge defensive workload for Pau Gasol and may decrease his offensive production. Without doubt, how to contain Kevin Garnett must be high on the Lakers list of priorities. For the Celtics, the production from Kevin Garnett’s power forward position may lead to a championship.

A Tax on Internet Purchases

Posted: June 1st, 2008 | Author: Catherine | Filed under: General | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

On this first day of June, the commerce on the internet changed. Retailers online are obligated by legislation to collect a sales tax in New York. This is now a legislative requirement for New York state:

“…Amazon.com had posted the following on its website:

Due to a new law recently passed by the state of New York, we are required to collect NY sales taxes on taxable items sold by Amazon.com on or after June 1, 2008. If your order is placed prior to June 1, your Order Total may not include an estimate of NY sales taxes, but those taxes may still be charged if your order is readied for shipment on or after that date.”"

The long term impact will be that the retailers will have more paper work and more staff hours dedicated to meeting this legislation. This will trickle down to the consumer in further price increases, in addition to the expense of the actual tax itself. The government has made buying online more expensive.
