Britain has been called the Surveillance Society. For example, there are surveillance cameras to track and record people’s activity. Now the tracking escalates. A data base will track and store telephone communication and internet activity:
“…A massive government database holding details of every phone call, e-mail and time spent on the internet by the public is being planned as part of the fight against crime and terrorism. Internet service providers (ISPs) and telecoms companies would hand over the records to the Home Office under plans put forward by officials.”
Essentially, it is a huge step toward the elimination of personal privacy. Where you go, to whom you talk on the phone and what you write in an email will be recorded. Coupled this with an ID card and medical information and the government authorities essentially know most personal facets of a citizen’s life. In the name of security, every person is suspect.

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer was attacked with eggs in Budapest:
Whether one likes Microsoft or not, the question is ‘where is the security for Steve Ballmer?’. Surely one of the largest technology companies on the planet can afford a top-notch security detail for its chief executive officer.

Part of indexing the world’s information now includes your medical information. Google wants your health and medical data:
“…The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Web search leader announced the public launch of Google Health during a Webcast on Monday. It lets users import records from a variety of care providers and pharmacies.”
Without a doubt, the Google marketing people must have loads of health related advertising just waiting for this launch. Google wants your health information… and your advertising clicks.

Tonight, it is Game Seven of the San Antonio Spurs - New Orleans Hornets Series. For one of these teams, it is the last game of the 2007-2008 NBA season. This is the game that decided who advances and who begins summer holidays. It is Cinderella versus the reigning NBA champions.
By virtue of the regular season standings, the game will be played in New Orleans. Home court has been a factor in post season play, especially in this series. Every game has been won by the home team. This game will resemble a college basketball game. Each possession is important. Each rebound will be contested. It will be intense.
The Hornets began the season playing before less than stellar attendance at the New Orleans Arena. Now, the city will stop and hold its collective breath to see if their Cinderella team can turn back the defending champions. This evening will be part of legend. And no matter who wins, this is exactly what New Orleans needed.

It was such a frustrating problem. The initial home page, when starting Internet Explorer (IE), would load but very very slowly. It would take over a minute (and sometimes longer) on a cable connection. Once the home page had loaded completely, IE worked well and other pages were not a problem.
With the help of some expert friends at Spywareinfo and other security sites, there was a barrage of email exchanged for two days. We methodically tried hypothesis after hypothesis. With each failure, we were more determined and more interested in finding out what caused this. The number of things that were tried are too extensive to list here but we tried to be thorough. At the start, the thought was that it was a malware or rootkit problem. I should mention that the same home page was not a problem to load in either Opera or Firefox. It was just a frustration in IE.
To summarize a long misspent weekend, the culprit was the Google toolbar. The solution is to uninstall the Google toolbar and then reinstall it again. Then the initial home page of IE loads almost instantaneously. This solves the problem but it would be so nice to send Google a bill for all the hours that these security experts and I spent on this problem. - And to all the people who helped resolve this problem, “thank you - thank you - thank you!”. Marissa, please have this fixed!

Candace Parker has made her debut as a professional basketball player. As expected, she was brilliant:
“…Parker scored 34 points, the most in a WNBA debut, and added 12 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Sparks beat the defending champion Phoenix Mercury 99-94 on Saturday.”
There does not seem to be any lingering impact from the dislocated shoulder that Candace Parker suffered earlier this year at the collegiate level. Ms Parker was shooting three point shots. She tried two from three-point-land and made both of them. Her points total would have been higher had she been more successful from the foul line. She missed eight free throws. That is half of her free throw attempts.
Nevertheless, it was an impressive start to a professional basketball career. She is absolutely an advertising executive’s ‘dream come true’. It is obvious that she enjoys her sport and she excels. Candace Parker wears the number three for the Los Angeles Sparks. This ‘CP3′ will be a big part of women’s basketball. She’s just a terrific athlete.
