Windows XP SP3 and Continuous Reboots

Posted: May 9th, 2008 | Author: Catherine | Filed under: General | 1 Comment »

One of the problems that some XP users are reporting is a reboot problem with SP3. This had been a pre-release problem mentioned on help forums and now the problem seems to be continuing. Chloe Albanesius is reporting a quote from Jesper Johansson which attempts to explain the problem:

“…”At this point, I want to clarify that the endless rebooting is not at all related to SP3 per se,” Johansson wrote. “The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.”

Johansson offers a detailed work around on his blog.”

Some experts from Spywareinfo and myself have tried to contact Microsoft. Unfortunately, at the close of the business day on May 9, 2008, there is no reply. So, if you are having stability issues with your machine and you are experiencing multiple reboots, just know that you are not alone.

Taser Use on Pregnant Women

In Canada, the Vancouver Police will restrain themselves from using the stun gun on pregnant women. And the reason is that these women might fall and hurt themselves:

“…”That’s your only concern?” asked inquiry lawyer Patrick McGowan.

“At this point, yes,” replied Const. Tammy Hammell, coordinator of the conducted energy weapons (Tasers) program for the Vancouver police force.”

Apparently, the effect of a jolt of electric current on a growing fetus is not that much of a concern, “at this point”, to Constable Hammell.

The Effective E-Résumé

Posted: May 9th, 2008 | Author: Catherine | Filed under: General | No Comments »

With the thousands and thousands of new graduates in the job market, the competition for those available jobs is fierce. One needs every competitive edge possible. An essential is a good résumé and, in many cases, it is an e-résumé.

Eric Presley, writing for careerbuilder.com, has put together an essential guideline for an effective e-résumé:

“…Electronic résumés are plain text or HTML documents, which can also be included in the body of an e-mail for job applications online.

It may not be as attractive as your word-formatted résumé in all its bulleted, bold-text, fancy-font glory, but it gets the job done.”

Remember all those things that people told you about making a good first impression. In the electronic age, the first task is to stop the reader from hitting that ‘delete’ button. These suggestions will help.
