Pay Phones Soon Gone

It was bound to happen. Earlier this year, I was bemoaning the fact that working pay phones were becoming obsolete. AT&T will turn them into antiques:

“AT&T says it’ll quit the rapidly shrinking pay phone business by the end of next year.”

It is just another step in making cell phones ubiquitous. Soon, it will be quaint to have a land line going to one’s residence. And the trend seems to be dedicated cell phones - some people’s work place are giving cell phones tied to their communication system. Some people, if they are not already doing so, will be carrying multiple cell phones.
