Ad-Aware has updated. “Lavasoft now has Vista-compatible versions of its Ad-Aware 2007 anti-spyware line. The Free, Plus and Pro versions all now work with the 32-bit version of Microsoft’s new OS.”

Remember to update Ad-Aware regularly. There are updates on a weekly basis usually. It is a good idea to not delete the quarantine list immediately. If there are problems, you might want to see if restoring the latest quarantine file helps to resolve the difficulty.

The notion that mathematics is boring can be dispelled by this report. Some mathematicians at Cambridge have been advancing science and are reporting these findings:
“Jessica Alba, the film actress, has the ultimate sexy strut, according to a team of Cambridge mathematicians.
The academics found that it is the ratio between hips and waist that puts the sway into a woman’s walk - and the nearer that ratio is to 0.7, the better.”

The members of the group that did this research are not listed - perhaps for privacy reasons - perhaps for security reasons. My wild guess is that members of this team of dedicated mathematicians are mostly male. Of course, that is pure speculation…

Leona Helmsley, called the ‘Queen of Mean’, left a very generous trust for her dog… twelve million dollars:
“…Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble, a $12 million trust fund, according to her will, which was made public Tuesday in surrogate court.
…But two of Helmsley’s grandchildren got nothing from the late luxury hotelier and real estate billionaire’s estate.”

Does Forbes magazine keep a list of the ‘world’s most wealthy dogs’? Perhaps it would be too depressing to read about rich canines…

It is every internet user’s dream - a fast connection at a reasonable price. The data show that Japan is at the forefront:
“…Broadband service here is eight to 30 times as fast as in the United States — and considerably cheaper. Japan has the world’s fastest Internet connections, delivering more data at a lower cost than anywhere else, recent studies show.”

The average download speed in Japan is 61 mbps. In the United States, it is 2 mbps…

George Hotz has received loads of publicity for unlocking the iPhone. Now, an Irish firm has posted a video showing the unlocking process:
“A video showing the founder of a Belfast, Northern Ireland company unlocking the iPhone hit the Web early Wednesday U.K. time as proof that software exists that can unlock Apple’s device for use with carriers other than AT&T Inc. “

The question remains as to whether unlocking your iPhone, which you bought and own, is indeed legal.

There will be a major job opening at Google. The person has to be good with numbers - very large numbers:
“George Reyes, Google’s first and only chief financial officer, is expected to retire from the internet company by the end of the year.”

Mr Reyes has helped to guide Google from before the initial public offering. It is a senior position and Wall Street, for one, will be watching carefully.

Google has added a new partner. Soon, when you go to CNN online for your news fix, you will find Google advertising:
“…”We’re pleased to enhance the reader experience through the targeted placement of relevant ads,” Google gushed in this morning’s press release. “Our new relationship with Google will deliver relevant ads to our users, enhancing their overall experience on CNN.com,” CNN replied.
Yes, both companies are pointing to you as the beneficiary of this enhanced experience.”

This partnership gives Google the CNN online viewers. Now, not only will you have the news that you need to see, you will be served the advertising that you need to see. It’s called an “enhanced experience” (also known as ‘money’).

ESPN / Associated Press is reporting an interesting court ruling in New York City. The District Court has ruled that the city is allowed to ban metal baseball bats from high school games. The judgment is not based on empirical evidence:
“…”The protection of the health and safety of high school-age students is entitled to great weight,” the judge said. “While the record does not include clear empirical evidence showing that more serious injuries would occur without the ordinance, it is the city’s legislative assessment that the risk is too great.”"

It seems that rulings can go forward in the absence of empirical data. Fear and security concerns trump empirical scientific inquiry.
