Buying groceries online is not a new idea. It has been tried before but Amazon brings years of distribution expertise to the idea. Jessica Mintz, reporting for Associated Press, gave it a try:
“…Aside from the excessive number of bags, Amazon’s delivery got a perfect score. Ice cream? Frozen. Lettuce? Crispy. Eggs? Unbroken. Salmon? Refrigerator-temperature, well-sealed and from a nearby town. Amazon also gave us free “complimentary samples,” including an extra dozen eggs and a family-sized bag of pre-washed salad mix.
It turns out that 89 cents was a steal for the nectarines, which were as big as softballs.”

For a free service and for a concept in a test-market phase, Ms Mintz seems to give this grocery part of Amazon’s operations high marks. The idea might be well received by those who are so time challenged that grocery shopping becomes pushed further and further down the priority list. Personally, grocery shopping is a routine that is a nice part of my weekly schedule, away from the computer and away from other demands. Pushing about that cart is relaxing. I know that I don’t want to see incoming email and site alert problems, while I am deciding on the vegetables for the next couple of suppers. I am probably not a grocery-multitasking kind of person… at least, not yet. I would fall into the “uncool” category of Amazon’s demographics.

If you have trouble with waking up in the mornings, science might have just the answer for you. The bio alarm clocks may be the next essential morning aid:
“Morning grogginess may be a thing of the past thanks to bio-alarm clocks designed to wake sleepers at the perfect time.
The clocks detect brainwaves or body movements and are programmed to wake sleepers during light sleep, which occurs periodically through the night.”

There are no reported findings about how effective these clocks work, if you are student trying to wake up for that early morning calculus class. Perhaps that stretches the limits of science…

Do you have any funds left in your electronics-buying-budget? - Sony is hoping that you do have some income to direct to its video Walkman:
” Consumer electronics maker Sony Corp. on Thursday said it introduced a new U.S. version of its Sony Walkman that includes the ability to play digital video, the latest potential rival to Apple Inc.’s dominant iPod media player.”

The lawmakers might as well include this in their legislation. Some states are legislating against cell phone use, including text messaging, while driving. You just know that there are going to be some people who will be catching up with their latest videos, while motoring down the road.

There is speculation, reflected by Wall Street, that the iPod product line is going to be Apple’s next marketing push:
“…Technology news Web sites have speculated that Apple could launch a new video iPod with a large touch screen similar to the iPhone, and a redesigned iPod nano in time for the end-of-year holiday shopping season.”

Even with the mid year, enormous success of the iPhone, it is unlikely that Steve Jobs and Apple will not have something innovative for the year end shoppers. Wall Street is expecting Steve Jobs to have more marketing magic for the final quarter of 2007. At this point, would you bet against him?

There is an attack to trick Google’s Blogger users into triggering a malware download:
“…The fake entries contain weblinks that lead to booby-trapped downloads that could infect a Windows PC.
Infected computers are being hijacked by the gang behind the attacks and either mined for saleable data or used for other attacks.”

Be cautious of the links - and make sure your security applications have been updated and that there latest definitions are being used. This seems to be a massive attack.

Out of the mess, there is some positive. One just has to look for it. The Humane Society will have some much needed donations:
“KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The eBay auction for 22 Michael Vick football cards, chewed up and slobbered on by two Missouri dogs, ended Wednesday as the winning bidder dished out $7,400 — with the money expected to be donated to the Humane Society.”

Sometimes, it is encouraging the voice of the people is heard somehow - even if the message is delivered through eBay and some trading cards. Kudos to Rochelle Steffen!
